Welcome to the Pitstop Out of School club website
The Pitstop Out of School Club is open to all 4-12 year olds. At Pitstop we promote the principles of Play; that children’s play is freely chosen and that through Play children can explore - learning and developing as an individual. Our aim is to provide opportunities for the individual child to achieve his or her potential in a fun, friendly and caring environment.
New Pre-School opened!
Our new pre-school opened on 2 February 2015 for 2-4 year olds. Based at The Play House in Hall Farm Road where we run the holiday club and after school club it offers all the best facilities and a large outdoor garden. We are really pleased to now be able to offer a total childcare package for families, all year round for all children from 2 - 12 years. Funded places available for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. Celebrating 10 years of Playwork
The Pitstop Out of School Club, based at the Play House in Melton, celebrated their milestone 10th birthday on 10th August. Children at the club made and decorated a superb birthday cake just for the occasion. The afternoon was full of fun with balloon modelling, face painting and a giant art workshop, whilst staff were subjected to having wet sponges thrown at them!
Pitstop Manager, Heather Heelis said ‘It was a fantastic day which really celebrated 10 years of Playwork in the community. All children have an inbuilt need to play, at Pitstop we provide the opportunity for children to play freely in a safe and supported environment, enabling them to explore, create, make friends and above all, have fun! We pride ourselves on being one of the most inclusive clubs in Suffolk, achieving an ‘Outstanding’ grade for inclusion at our last 2 Osfted inspections. At the end of the day we are just one big happy family.’
Christine Cone, Chairman added ‘Pitstop has an enthusiastic and professional team of Playworkers which put the needs of the children at the heart of everything they do. Following from our move into our purpose built building in 2011 we are extremely proud to have reached this milestone in and look forward to the next 10 years.’
Outdoor Healthy Living Project
Our big 2013 project is all about healthy living - outdoors. There are 2 parts to the project; Growing and Being Active.
The children have just created their mini sensory garden following a trip to the garden centre to buy a range of herbs, lavender and brightly coloured flowers. They designed and planted all the plants and have already seen the bees enjoying the lavender. The Growing project has really taken off this summer with a whole range of vegetables growing in our polytunnel and veggie beds, including our unique 'lettuce tower'.
We were absolutey thrilled to be given a generous grant from County Councillor Michael Bond to purchase some new outdoor equipment; a mini mountain, spinning see-saw, a slide and 2 trampettes. Being healthy is also about keeping fit through play. Studies have indicated that an hour of active play a day has tangible benefits in keeping fit and healthy. The mini mountain and slide have been chosen for their climbing features, which has been proven in studies to help with co-ordination and fine motor skills such as writing by exercising muscles used in climbing which are also used in writing. The spinning see-saw has been chosen for exercising leg muscles and the trampettes for cardiovascular fitness – all of course without the children being conscious of doing so! To the children it’s not exercise – it’s Play!
